Review
“You can’t start a fire without a spark,” Bruce Springsteen once sang—and it’s true. Inspiration often fuels motivation, especially when it comes to living with purpose.
In Psalm 26, David reveals the motivation behind his pursuit of integrity—it’s simply being “all in” with God. The psalm begins and ends with the same resolve: “I have walked in my integrity” (vv. 1, 11).
Integrity means living a life that is sound, true, and consistent with the values one claims. For the follower of God, it’s about reflection—our lives reflecting His truth and character. David shows us that integrity is not perfection, but direction: a wholehearted devotion to walking with the Lord.
Within this psalm, David models several key aspects of integrity:
vv. 1–2: Examination
David invites God to test and try him. His confidence lies not in himself but in his devotion to God. Even when he failed, he returned again to that relationship.
v. 3: Contemplation
He reflects on God’s steadfast love and faithfulness—the ultimate example of integrity and the foundation for our imitation.
vv. 4–7: Separation
David chooses not to align himself with deceitful or hypocritical people. He also practices purification, symbolically washing his hands—an act of daily confession and renewal.
vv. 9–10: Prevention
He acknowledges the destructive end of those who persist in evil and intentionally distances himself from that path.
vv. 11–12: Affirmation
David reaffirms his commitment to integrity, relying on God’s mercy and stability, and responds with praise for His sustaining grace.
A life of integrity begins with a spark of devotion—an inner decision to be wholly God’s. Like David, we can ask God to test, teach, and transform us so that our lives burn brightly with His truth. Why hold back when full devotion ignites such a fire of integrity?
Remember
Psalm 26 is a reminder that integrity isn’t perfection—it’s devotion. Like David, we can invite God to test, shape, and strengthen us so our lives reflect His steadfast love and truth.

Reflect
David invited God to test and prove him (Psalm 26:2). What would it look like for you to welcome God’s examination of your heart and motives this week?
Integrity involves daily “washing” and renewal (Psalm 26:6). What practical rhythms or habits help you stay aligned with God’s truth and character?
Reflect on Philippians 3:7, Matthew 13:44, and 2 Samuel 12. How do these passages together show that true integrity flows from treasuring God above all else and returning to Him when we fall short?
Respond
Ask God to search your heart and reveal any area where compromise has crept in. Then take one deliberate step of obedience that aligns your actions with His truth.
Lord, test me and teach me. Let my integrity be rooted not in my strength, but in Your steadfast love. Help me walk in truth, stay on level ground, and bring praise to Your name. Amen.
