Review
As we reach the conclusion of the book of Ruth, we discover that this story, in many ways, has been about Naomi. Boaz marries Ruth, and they have a son, Obed—presented to Naomi as a sign of redemption. The author then traces his lineage all the way to King David!
Looking back, we see five stages in Naomi’s journey—stages many of us experience in our own walk with God:
Grieving
Naomi loses her husband and sons, returning to Israel empty and bitter.
Seeking
She begins to recognize God’s hand at work, even in the small things.
Acting
She encourages Ruth to seek Boaz, stepping forward in faith.
Waiting
Having done her part, Naomi trusts God by waiting patiently for what He will do next.
Receiving
Naomi, once bitter, now rejoices in God’s goodness through Ruth’s loyalty and a grandson who brings joy and legacy.
This story reminds us that even when life feels bleak, God is always at work. He walks with us through each stage, whether we’re grieving, seeking, acting, waiting, or receiving.
If God revealed everything ahead of time, we might try to take control, missing the deeper relationship we develop by walking with Him step by step. In the journey, we come to know His character, and that knowledge sustains us in future trials.
So, ask yourself: Where am I in this journey?
Is God faithful to meet me here?
Is He faithful to lead me forward?
Naomi would say, with confidence: “Yes, He is.”
Reminder
God is faithful through every stage—grieving, seeking, acting, waiting, and receiving—meeting us at the intersection of what is for the good of His people and the glory of His name.
Reflect
1. What stage of Naomi’s journey am I currently in—grieving, seeking, acting, waiting, or receiving? Reflect on how you see God’s hand (or long for it) in your current season. Ask the Lord to help you trust Him in this stage.
2. How have I seen God’s faithfulness in the past when I couldn’t see the full picture?
Thank God for a time when He worked things together in ways you didn’t expect.
3. Where might God be inviting me to take a step of faith, even before I know the outcome? Consider whether He is nudging you to act, speak, release control, or simply trust. Ask God to give you courage to move forward in faith.
Respond
Take 10–15 minutes to journal where you see yourself in Naomi’s journey—grieving, seeking, acting, waiting, or receiving. Then, write a short prayer or note to God reflecting on what you need from Him in this season. Optional: Share your reflection with a trusted friend or small group to invite prayer and encouragement.
