ABIDE – Don’t Miss Him! John 7:25-53 (Nate Muse)

In this passage, we see the crowds making a controversy out of Jesus by missing the truth about Him.

What Did They Miss about Him?

1.  v 27 –  They claimed they did not know where He was from, but they did know.  It wasn’t hidden that He came from Bethlehem, which the prophet Micah had predicted. Micah 5:2 Matthew 2:6

2. v. 30 – They failed to realize that no one would do more signs than Jesus was doing, as prophesied in Isaiah 35:4-6 and 61:1-3.

3. vv. 40-41 They fail to realize that Jesus indeed, was born in Bethlehem, the specific town Micah spoke of.

Why Did They Miss Him?

1.  The condition of their heart.  Someone who loves God is someone who sees, hears, and comes to Jesus.  Those who do not, see and hear but reject and are not changed.

2. The assumptions that they made.  They thought they knew so much about Who the Messiah would be that they missed the truth and focused on tradition.  For all they thought they knew, they did not experience Him.

How Can We Avoid Missing Him?

1.  Come to Him on HIS terms, not our own.   Mark 8:34-35

2. Come open-handed, holding loosely to our own understanding.

3.  Come expecting to be filled.  He promises Living Water to those who come.  v. 37

What we believe about Jesus doesn’t change the truth about Him, but it does affect how we relate to Him.

You can reject, or you can come, but you cannot ignore.
