REVIEW

When life feels overwhelming, we may shake our fists and ask God to change our circumstances. But there is a difference between wrestling WITH God—wanting Him to fix what we face—and wrestling with GOD—recognizing who He is and surrendering to His sovereignty.

In Exodus 4, Moses is wrestling with God. After moving from a place of privilege in Egypt to tending sheep in the wilderness, Moses receives a staggering call: “Come, I will send you to Pharaoh that you may bring my people, the children of Israel, out of Egypt.” Instead of focusing on Pharaoh, Moses fears returning to God’s people. His past wounds shape how he views the future. Moses is speaking from painful memories, but God is speaking from divine knowledge.

God patiently responds to each objection. He gives Moses signs that reveal His authority over creation, human life, and circumstances: a staff becoming a serpent, a diseased hand being healed, and water becoming blood. These signs were not only for the people Moses would lead—they were also for Moses himself. The God who was sending him was greater than every fear he carried.

Even after God’s reassurance, Moses continues to resist. He questions his ability to speak and finally says, “Please send someone else.” God’s response reveals both His patience and His passion for His plan. Aaron was not a backup plan; God had provided someone to walk alongside Moses. There is no plan B.

As Moses returns to Egypt, we see that God is not shaping him into a celebrity, but into a servant. His confidence grows not because the mission becomes easier, but because he learns to trust the God who called him. God’s plans may not always be smooth, but they are sovereign.

When Moses and Aaron speak to the Israelites, nothing has changed yet—but the people believe, worship, and respond because God has seen, heard, and remembered His promises. Their worship was based on what God was going to do, not what He had done.

It is okay to wrestle with God. But God invites us into transformation: moving from wrestling WITH God over our circumstances to wrestling with GOD—sovereign One who is faithful through them.

REMEMBER
There are times when God won’t transform our circumstances because He wants to transform US

REFLECT
Where do you find yourself wrestling with God right now—through questions, doubts, fears, or uncertainty? How might you bring that struggle honestly before Him?

Like Moses, we often focus on our limitations instead of God’s power. What “excuses” or feelings of inadequacy might be keeping you from responding to God’s invitation or calling?

How does remembering that God’s presence goes with you change the way you approach the things He is asking you to do?

Word of the week: WRESTLING

RESPOND

Faithful God,
when we stand at the edge of the unknown,
remind us You are already there.

When doubt rises louder than Your call,
quiet our hearts with Your presence.

When we feel weak or unready,
help us trust Your strength and provision.

Release our fears,
loosen our excuses,
and lead us forward in trust.

Give us courage to follow You and say,
“Here I am.”
Amen.

RELATE
When you feel unqualified or hesitant in relationships, don’t pull back—show up simply and honestly. God often works through our ordinary presence more than our polished confidence, so trust Him to be enough in the conversation and take the next small step toward connection.
