It is GOOD to be All In with God
Exodus 6:10–7:13
Like the wake-up call in Tim McGraw’s song, Live Like You Were Dying, Moses had a moment in Exodus 4 when God firmly confronted his hesitation. Now, Moses is all-in. He is ready to take the next steps of obedience with God, even while carrying real concerns about himself, his people, and Pharaoh’s response.
Moses learns that obedience does not mean having every answer ahead of time. He will be a dependent participant in God’s plan, trusting that the outcome belongs to God and that God’s glory is the ultimate goal. Moses had repeatedly worried about his ability to speak and whether Pharaoh would listen, yet God had already made clear that Pharaoh would not respond immediately. The question was never whether Moses was enough; the question was whether God was present.
God reminds Moses to focus not on his own abilities but on God’s presence, power, and daily guidance. The genealogy in Exodus 6 serves as a reminder that God has not forgotten His people or His promises. After generations of waiting, the time has come. It is go time.
God does not call the equipped; He equips the called. He meets Moses right where he is and provides the path forward, even laying out how communication will happen between Moses, Aaron, and Pharaoh. God is preparing to put His glory on display.
We often become overwhelmed by things God has already promised to handle. Like Moses, we may face situations that seem impossible or even futile, yet God may be working through those very circumstances to reveal His power. He may bless us or burden us with something that makes little sense in the moment but ultimately brings Him glory.
When Moses and Aaron stood before Pharaoh, even the signs God gave them seemed unusual. The staff becoming a snake—and then returning to a staff—was something Pharaoh’s magicians could initially imitate. We are not told exactly how they did it, but we are shown the greater truth: God’s power was greater than anything Pharaoh’s magicians could produce.
The reality is that we often have no idea what God is doing. But we can trust that He is good, that He is working, and that He will show us what to do and when to do it.
Like Moses, we can be caught up in the story God is writing while remaining aware of our own limitations—securely made strong by His presence and guidance. When we listen and surrender, we discover the joy of being all-in with God.
REMEMBER
The truth is, we don’t know what God is up to. But we do know He is good – and it is a joy to be all-in with Him.
REFLECT
In Tim McGraw’s song, the man reaches a moment where he realizes what truly matters and decides to go all in. What circumstances, questions, or experiences have God used in your life to bring you to a deeper place of surrender and trust?
Like Moses, we often focus on our limitations instead of God’s presence and power. What fears, doubts, or feelings of inadequacy have the potential to keep you from fully trusting God’s calling?
Moses did not know the full plan, but he knew the One who was leading him. What would it look like for you to follow God faithfully even when you do not have the whole story?
Word of the week: ALL IN
RESPOND
Lord, teach us to listen,
when You call us to go.
Help us trust Your presence,
even when the path is unknown.
When fears speak louder
than the promises You have made,
remind us that Your power
is greater than what we face.
Make us willing and ready,
to follow where You lead.
May our lives tell the story
of Your glory, not our own.
Amen.
RELATE
This week, encourage someone in your church family who may be wrestling with doubt or feeling inadequate. Remind them that God often works through ordinary people who simply say yes and trust His presence. A simple text asking, “How can I pray for you as you follow God this week?” may be the encouragement they need.
